According to reports, Avatar items can be found in the Microsoft Store by using the search term “Avatar”. While it was first believed this was a United States exclusive, the feature is in fact available globally. Once the search is complete, a wide selection of costumes become viewable. Each of these can be purchased and can be opened in the Xbox Avatar Editor. Later this month, when Xbox Avatars launch, the costumes will be fully usable. Items for Avatars in the store are part of a new category that we guess Microsoft will expand. Users can choose from a wide selection of free and paid items. Interestingly, while all these items are relatively easy to find, Microsoft has yet to officially announce the availability.
Getting Ready
It seems the company is putting everything in place ahead of the launch of Xbox Avatars. It’s certainly been a long road to get to this point, with numerous delays along the way. At E3 2017, Microsoft launched the avatars with a promise they were equality-minded and would launch later in the year. That release never happened. Microsoft instead announced the Avatars were delayed before a proposed April launch also came and went. Last week, the company rolled out the Xbox Avatar Editor to all users. It was limited to preview for several months but is now available fully in the Store. Microsoft has previously explained how the new feature expands on the old Avatar system: “The new Xbox Avatars are built from the ground up in to enable an unprecedented amount of inclusive customization options, and we will continue to grow these selections over time. A wide range of body types and gender-neutral clothing enable you to uniquely tailor your avatar however you see fit. If you see something you like, you can use it.”
