It is a model that has allowed Huami to become the largest wearable manufacturer in the world. Just like Xiaomi does with smartphones, the company stacks them high with numerous products. While the exclusivity of FitBit or the Apple Watch appeal to many, Huami likes to keep them cheap, cheerful, but also functional. And yes, Xiamoi and Huami have also made it big by standing on the shoulders of giants… or as some would call it, copying. There is no doubt the Amazfit Bip is an Apple Watch clone. The Amazfit Bip will fit into the existing Amazfit product range and will cost $99. It will be available globally and comes with some solid specs for its humble price. It gets a 1.28-inch (176 x 176 pixels) capacitive touch display coated in Corning Gorilla Glass 3. That size is on par for a fitness tracker which does not need the extra display real estate of a smartwatch. The Amazfit Bip also weight just 31 grams, you should barely notice it is there when on a run. Other specs include a 190 mAh Lithium Polymer battery that Huami says is good for 45 days of standby battery life. Of course, that’s a way of confusing customers, as battery performance will be nothing like that through day-to-day use. Indeed, the company says you should get 22 hours on a single charge while running with the GPS on. Solid, but not spectacular.
Details
Indeed, solid and not spectacular sums up the Amazfit Bip pretty well. This is not meant to compete with the big hitters. It will deliver a solid experience for a fraction of the price, though. In terms of sensors, it is well stocked with a PPG heart rate, acceleration, geomagnetic, and air pressure sensor array. Connectivity is taken care of by Bluetooth v4.0 and Wi-Fi. GPS tracking is robust, with outdoor/indoor run, walking, and sleeping modes. As with all Huami wearable’s, the Amazfit Bip is cross platform. It will work with any smartphone running Android 4.4 and iOS 8 and above. The device will be officially launched on Feb. 14, 2018 where Huami will show off the Onyx Black, White Cloud, Kodak Green, and Cinnabar Red colorways.
